Caregivers and Families: Canadian PR pathway

Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news, and I am Joy Stephen, an authorized Canadian Immigration practitioner coming out with this Canadian Federal News. Today is the 17/02/2023 and I am coming to you from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.

Caregivers provide much needed assistance in the lives of many Canadians. Foreign nationals are helping to fill these roles for Canadians and are eligible for permanent residence in Canada. Soon, caregivers will be able to gain permanent residence more quickly.
Pilot programs for foreign nationals to work in Canada as caregivers include the Home Child Care Provider (HCCP) pilot and the Home Support Worker (HSW) pilot. Since their inception in 2019, the pilot programs have made it possible for almost 1,600 caregivers and their families to become permanent residents in Canada.
The work experience requirement for a caregiver to apply for permanent residence in Canada is being lowered to 12 months. The change will take effect on April 30, 2023. It will include caregivers who have already applied for permanent residence. Work experience in Canada from a previous work permit is also being accepted in an application for permanent residence.
The change means that caregivers and their families will be eligible sooner for permanent residence so they can stay, live, and work in Canada.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will also improve processing of applications with this change.
Permanent caregiver programs for foreign nationals are being discussed so that once the pilot programs conclude in 2024, caregivers can continue to help Canadians and become permanent residents in Canada.
