Saskatchewan to attract more health care professionals into the province
Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news, and I am Joy Stephen, an authorized Canadian Immigration practitioner coming out with this Canadian Saskatchewan News. Today is the 03/02/2023 and I am coming to you from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.
Saskatchewan’s new four-point Health Human Resources (HHR) Action Plan will tackle the need for more qualified health professionals in the province. The plan is to attract healthcare workers from Canada and abroad through investment in new incentives and increasing awareness of existing programs. The four pillars of the plan are recruitment, incentives, training, and retention.
The recruitment pillar aims to add approximately 850 internationally educated healthcare workers to the province over the next two years. Incentives include student loan forgiveness and graduate retention income tax credits. Training will expand education in the health sciences at Saskatchewan’s post-secondary institutions and hasten licensure and training timelines for internationally educated healthcare workers.
Retention will also be a focus, aided by the new Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency and forging partnerships with First Nations and Métis communities. This includes the establishment of programs like the Indigenous Birth Support Worker program. According to the province’s Health Minister, Saskatchewan is an outstanding place to build a health care career.
